KABUL: At least 25 people, including 8 journalists, died and dozens others sustained injuries in two back-to-back suicide attacks in Shash Darak area of Kabul on Monday.

In the first explosion, a suicide bomber on a motorcycle detonated himself near the National Directorate of Security (NDS), the main Afghan intelligence agency, at 8:00am, Afghan media reported.

Another explosion occurred 20 minutes after the first blast, which killed emergency medical workers and journalists who had arrived at the scene.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Public Health was quoted as saying that a number of injured were in critical condition.

ISIS claimed responsibility for the blasts.

AFP news agency reported that its chief photographer in Kabul, Shah Marai, was among the dead.

Monday’s explosions came a week after a blast on a voter registration centre in Kabul that killed 57 people and wounded over a hundred others.

Terror attacks have witnessed a sharp increase in Afghanistan ahead of the parliamentary elections in Afghanistan which are scheduled for October 20. The elections have already been delayed over security concerns.
