PESHAWAR, 8 August: The Sikh community of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced to hold a long march against the federal government for non-provision of funds and not carrying out development work inside gurdwaras.

Decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of Sikh community in Thanda Koi area of Peshawar on Monday which was attended by community members from Peshawar, Buner, Swat and Mardan. Participants of the meeting said the federal government had promised provision of development funds, construction, repair and development of gurdwaras, preparation of special curriculum and increase in job quota, but not even a single promise was fulfilled. They said Chairman Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Siddiqul Farooq had promised in 2014 to reopen the closed gurdwaras in KP, but that promise was not fulfilled.

The meeting decided to hold a long march from Peshawar to Islamabad’s Jinnah Super Market and stage sit-in at Jinnah Super Market and Islamabad Press Club. The Sikh community members living in all parts of the country were also invited to join the protest.
