Senate committee takes notice of discriminatory attitude with Pakhtuns at NADRA offices

PESHAWAR: The Senate Standing Committee on Interior has taken notice of discriminatory attitude with Pakhtuns at the offices of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

The Awami National Party (ANP) Senator Shahi Syed said at the committee meeting in Islamabad on Monday that the NADRA offices have been instructed to take interview of the Pakhtuns coming for making, renewal or other matters related to their computerised national identity cards (CNICs) at the help desk before issuing tokens to them. Shahi Syed took strong exception to this attitude with Pakhtuns at NADRA offices and termed it discriminatory.

The Committee Chairman Rehman Malik also termed this step as discriminatory and asked the secretary Interior Ministry to conduct inquiry into the matter. He directed the NADRA chairman to take back these directions and appear before the Senate committee.
