Sammy leads Peshawar Zalmi to stunning win against Quetta Gladiators

PESHAWAR: Darren Sammy led Peshawar Zalmi to a stunning win against Quetta Gladiators by five wickets in a match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Sharjah on Thursday.

Quetta Gladiators after being invited to bat first scored 141 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Shane Watson was top scorer with 47 runs, while Rossouw scored 37. Umaid Asif, Darren Sammy and Wahab Riaz took two wickets each.

Peshawar Zalmi were struggling in the chase at the last moments of the game when Captain Darren Sammy, despite being injured and unable to run, scored 16 runs off 4 balls to clinch victory with 2 balls to spare. Tamim Iqbal scored 36 runs and Muhammad Hafeez scored 29. Watson, Hastings, Rahat Ali and Muhammad Nawaz took one wicket each for Quetta.

Sammy was declared player of the match for his brilliant all-round performance. He said after the match that he was determined to bat despite suffering injury. He praised the team effort for win.

Quetta still occupy second place on the points table due to superior run rate, while Peshawar are occupying fourth place.

Two matches will be played in the PSL today (Friday). In the first match, Karachi Kings, who are on top of the table, will face Multan Sultans, while Islamabad United will take on Lahore Qalandars, who are yet to record a victory in the mega event.
