Plot to carry out attack on Governor Balochistan foiled, two terrorists arrested

QUETTA, 20 December: Security forces have foiled a terror plot targeting Governor Balochistan, Muhammad Khan Achakzai and arrested two terrorists, provincial home minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti said here on Wednesday.

Addressing a news conference he said that the two militants were arrested during a raid carried out by the police and other law enforcement agencies in the Gulistan area in Qilla Abdullah.

“One of the militants belongs to Punjab while the other is a native of Gulistan area. They had planned to target the governor in his ancestral Gulistan area,” Bugti said.

He added that one of the militants, Hamid Bashir, who is affiliated with the Qari group, was providing logistic support. The Qari group is now stationed in Afghanistan, he explained.

“The timely action by police foiled the plot. Besides, huge quantity of weapons and explosives including 80 IEDs, 16 rocket shells and other weaponry have been recovered from terrorists’ possession,” he maintained.
