Petition filed in PHC for free of cost healthcare for disabled persons

PESHAWAR: A petition has been filed in the Peshawar High Court (PHC) seeking direction to the government to provide free of cost medical treatment to disabled persons.

The petition was filed by two disabled persons Asad Khan and Sher Alam from Mardan on Wednesday. The petitioners stated that they require Rs150,000 each for their medical treatment, but they cannot afford it due to weak financial condition. They said they approached government authorities for financial assistance for their treatment, but in vain.

They appealed to the court to instruct the federal and provincial governments to provide free of cost treatment to 3.3 million disabled persons under the international laws.

The government of Pakistan through secretary Ministry of National Health Services, director Ministry of National Health Services, secretary Finance Division, secretary for Law and Justice Division, managing director of Pakistan Baitul Maal, secretary Benazir Income Support Programme, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government through chief secretary, secretary health KP, director general Health Services, secretary Elementary and Secondary Education Department, Peshawar Development Authority, secretary Transport and Mass Transit, government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and project director for the KP’s Sustainable Bus Rapid Transit Corridor Project were made parities in the petition.
