PESHAWAR: Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said the United States should bear the expenses of fencing of the Pak-Afghan border.

In an interview with a foreign news channel, the minister said about 70,000 people cross the border daily. Mr Asif said fencing of the border is in the interest of both the countries as it will help end movement of militants across the border. He said the fencing should end by the end of 2019.

The minister said about 600,000 Afghan refugees returned to Afghanistan last year, but most of them have returned to Pakistan now. He urged the world bodies to enhance efforts for early repatriation of Afghan refugees.

About allegations of US President Donald Trump against Pakistan, Mr Asif said Pakistan wants to maintain cordial ties with the US and both the countries are making efforts for improving the relations.
