O’Brien leads Ireland fightback against Pakistan

PESHAWAR: Ireland staged a remarkable comeback on fourth day of the only Test against Pakistan and gained a lead of 139 runs in the second innings with three wickets still in hand in Dublin on Monday.

Ireland, following on, began the day 116 runs behind Pakistan. At one stage, they slipped to 127-5, after which Kevin O’Brien hit an unbeaten 118 to become Ireland’s maiden Test centurion. He shared a 114-run seventh-wicket partnership with Stuart Thompson and played main role in Ireland’s fightback. Thompson also contributed to Ireland’s innings by adding 53.

Muhammad Amir took three wickets and in the process also completed his 100 Test wickets. Muhammad Abbas took two wickets, while Shadab Khan took one wicket.

The fifth day play is scheduled to begin at 2:30pm (PST) today (Tuesday).

The match was reduced to four days after the washout of first day. Rain is also expected on final day of the match.
