Lodhran by-election: ECP sends notices to Imran Khan, Ali Tareen over code of conduct violation
February 10, 2018

PESHAWAR: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued notices to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and Ali Tareen, party candidate for by-election in NA-154, Lodhran, over violation of the election code of conduct.

Ali Tareen has been directed to appear before the ECP district office tomorrow (Sunday). The ECP said in a statement that it had already warned Imran Khan that elected parliamentarians cannot address a public rally in an electoral constituency. However, despite warning, the PTI organised a rally in the jurisdiction of the electoral constituency which was addressed by Imran Khan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Sheikh Rashid and Murad Saeed.

The ECP said in the notice that address to the rally by the parliamentarians in the presence of a candidate constitutes gross violation of the code of conduct.

The NA-154, Lodhran seat fell vacant after Jehangir Tareen was disqualified by the Supreme Court. Ali Tareen, son of Jehangir Tareen, is now contesting the by-election on the PTI ticket.
