KP Police defuse 4475 IEDs in 8 years

PESHAWAR: The Bomb Disposal Squad has successfully defused 4475 Improvised Explosives Devices (IEDs) since 2009 thus saving scores of innocent citizens.

A handout was issued by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police department in which the performances of BDU unit were applauded.

“Every rank officers from constable to Additional IGP sacrificed their precious life in line of duty. Like other unit the BD unit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police is also playing very vital role in the war against terrorism by sacrificing their lives with motivation and dedication”, read the document.

It also read that the unit has led from the front to eliminate the menace of terrorism. Since 2009 the unit has successfully defused 4475 IEDs and thus saved scores of innocent citizens and their property of billions rupees. In the line of duty, many officers of BDU lay down lives while protecting the public.

“Now the unit is playing key role in the war against terrorism by working with Special Branch, Operations, Investigation and various miscellaneous duties assigned by the CPO from time to time”.

The report also read that The Bomb Disposal Unit performance will be written with golden words in the annals of Pakistan’s history.

It is pertinent to mention here that there is no operational imbalance and the unit is fully equipped and operationally fit to meet any challenge of terrorism related to explosives and IEDs.

Repair and maintenance of equipment is recurring nature as it is used in the field round the clock to protect the public. In nutshell, the system is functioning very well in the entire province BD Units are fully equipped and are always ready to respond to any eventuality.

It merits mention here that Bomb Disposal Squad was raised in 1986 with Special Branch for VIP duties. Viewing the threat perception BDU was notified by the KPK Government in 2008 to meet the impending challenges of terrorism. The unit was upgraded in 2016 to meet operational requirement of the province.
