Hazara community members end hunger strike in Quetta after meeting with COAS

PESHAWAR: Human rights activist Jalila Haider and other people ended their hunger strike against the killing of people from Hazara community in Quetta on Tuesday night after a meeting with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Media reports said the army chief assured Jalila Haider to address the reservations of Hazara community after which she and other members of the camp ended their hunger strike.

People from Hazara community had staged sit-in at different places in Quetta against the target killing of the community people, while two groups had also staged hunger strike in front of Quetta Press Club. The activists of Balochistan National Party were sitting in one hunger strike camp, while the other camp was organised by Jalila Haider and she was accompanied by members of Hazara community. Jalila had said that she will never end hunger strike till a meeting with the army chief.

Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal visited the hunger strike camp on Tuesday night and then took Jalila to the Quetta Cantonment to meet the COAS who had arrived in Quetta to inspect law and order situation in the city and meet the leaders of Hazara community and political leaders. The meeting with Hazara community and other leaders continued till late night.

The members of Hazara community ended their protest after talks with the COAS, however, Jalila Haider was continuing her hunger strike. Jalila also ended her strike after meeting with Ahsan Iqbal and General Bajwa.
