SWAT: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Swat on Wednesday sentenced a man to death on three counts for raping and murdering a five-year-old girl.

The ATC judge Muhammad Arif announced this verdict after completion of hearing in the case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs600,000 on the convict and directed him to pay Rs200,000 in compensation to the bereaved family.

The culprit, Jamraz, on June 21 last year had taken five-year-old Madiha to his under construction house after giving her sweets where he killed her after raping her and threw her body after stuffing it in a gunny bag in Bisham area of Shangla district. The culprit was apparently fasting when he committed the heinous crime.

Shangla Police apprehended the accused after finding the shoes of the girl at the under construction house where the crime took place.

The accused confessed to his crime during the hearing and his own son also testified against him after which he was awarded death sentence.

The father of the victim girl expressed satisfaction over the court verdict. However, he said the culprit should be hanged publicly to set an example.
