Drug shops reopen in KP after chemists end strike.

May 18, 2018

PESHAWAR: Chemists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have ended their three-day long strike after negotiations with Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak.

The KP Chemist and Druggist Association said their representatives met the chief minister on Thursday who assured that their reservations will be addressed. They said the drug shops have been opened today (Friday) after successful talks. They said the chemists having Form-B will give test for Form-C while the condition of keeping pharms in the medical shop has also been relaxed by five years.

The drug stores owners were on strike since Tuesday against the new drug rules due to which the people faced a lot of difficulties as essential drugs were not available. The chemists were demanding restoration of the old Drug Act 1982.

The new Drug Rules 2017 have cancelled the Form B and C licences of drug stores owners and they have been asked to keep a pharmacist in their shops. The chemists say the new act will render thousands of people associated with medicines business jobless.
