World Aids Day Observed
PESHAWAR, 01 December: World Aids day is being observed globally on Thursday, the 1st of the December.
Like many other countries, the day is also marked in Pakistan in a bid to create awareness among the masses about the disease. Seminars were held and walks and rallies were organized in different cities of the country to highlight the day.
A gathering was held at the Khurasan Afghan refugees camp under the aegis of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR). Large number of people including religious scholars, barbers, teachers and people from other walks of life attended the gathering.
Health experts informed the local residents of the camp how they can protect themselves from getting infected with the deadly virus.
Dr. Hafeezullah, a medical practitioner highlighted the importance of the World Aids day, saying the day was being observed globally to create awareness among the public about the disease.
He said that Aids was incurable disease and people can only protect themselves from the disease by adopting precautionary measures.
He informed that there are certain causes of the spreading of the virus. Apart from sexual interaction, it can be transmitted through blood transfusion, reuse of needles and blades of barbers.
An awareness walk was also arranged after the gathering, in which doctors, teachers, religious leaders and general public participated.
