Sports Gala to begin in Bajaur from 12 April

KHAR, 8 April: FATA Sports Gala will get underway in Bajaur Agency on 12 April.

Assistant Political Agent Fayaz Khan Sherpao and Agency Sports Manager Fazle Akbar Khilji said while addressing a press conference at Bajaur Press Club on Thursday that more than 1,000 players from all the tribal agencies and frontier regions will participate in different sports competitions in the sports gala. They said the administration will provide accommodation, kits and food to the players. They said a budget of Rs5 million has been allocated for the event.

The officials said cricket, volleyball, football, badminton, basketball, cycling, gymnastics and other traditional sports competitions will be organised during the gala. Different cultural programmes will also be organised on the occasion.

All the sports tournaments in the festival will be named after journalists, Khassadar officials and other people who lost their lives in terror incidents. The administration says the purpose of the sports gala is to promote positive image of FATA, particularly Bajaur Agency.

The reforms process earlier faced hindrances due to opposition by certain political parties. The disqualification of Nawaz Sharif and dissolution of the federal cabinet has served as a fresh blow to the already fragile reforms process.
