Saudi King appoints Mohammad bin Salman as new crown prince

RIYADH, 21 June: Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud on Wednesday elevated his 31-year-old son Mohammed bin Salman as the new crown prince in a major reshuffle announced early on Wednesday.
According to media reports, King Salman removed Crown Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, a 57-year-old nephew of the king, as next-in-line to the throne and replaced him with Mohammed bin Salman, who was previously the deputy crown prince.
The newly-announced crown prince was also named deputy prime minister and will maintained his post as defense minister, said media reports.
In a series of royal decrees said that Prince Mohammed bin Nayef, who had been positioned to inherit the throne, from his title as crown prince and also sacked as Interior Minister. Reason of his removing not ascertained yet.
