Meet The Interns
TNN gives wide coverage to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata in its bulletins. It gives importance to its listeners’ opinion and accommodates news items on public demand. Apart from its daily bulletins, TNN also produce two monthly magazine programs on the plight of the Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs) and the Fata reforms. The objective of these programs is to educate the people of Fata on different issues and highlight their problems. The working environment at TNN is very conducive particularly for female interns. Here, interns are encouraged to learn new things such as drafting of news stories, editing and presenting bulletins. I always feel like at home because the staff working here was only supportive but also caring. TNN proved to be a good platform for me. Here I learned skills of reporting, editing and the most important I was taught how to translate a news story into Pashto. Presently, I am a final year student at the department of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Peshawar and in future, if TNN offers me a job, I would accept it without giving it a second thought. Working here as an intern was a very good experience for me and I hope the experience I gained here will help me in my career as a future journalist. I once again thank the entire team of TNN for providing me an opportunity to work as intern. The whole staff was cooperative and caring and supportive. My suggestion for the new interns is they should focus on learning new skills in reporting, editing, bulletin presentation and field work.
TNN is a news organization which focuses on every issues pertaining to Fata and KP. I worked here for a period of three months and I proudly say that I learned news story writing, editing of news stories and sound bites, reading news script and presenting news bulletins. The last but not the least I learnt Pashto typing and writing news in Pashto. The working environment at TNN was exceptionally well and ideal for newcomers like me. All the staff members and senior colleagues were very cooperative and supportive. I got great support from the senior colleagues during my stay there as intern. Their friendly attitude helped me a lot in updating my skills of journalism.
TNN covers every news worthy event happening in KP and Fata with a balance approach. Whether it is a government function or a public participatory event, TNN tries to accommodate it in its news bulletins. It also informs people of backward areas particularly where there are no TV signals about national, international and local news. Before joining TNN as intern, I had in mind to learn about reporting, story writing and presenting bulletins. After working in the organization, I almost accomplished my goals and I can say that here I learned practically what I had just read in the university. Apart from reporting and story writing, I also learned to translate news story into Pashto. The working environment was well beyond my expectations. It was due to the supporting attitude of the staff members that I learned different techniques in a very short span of time. The friendly environment also boosted my confidence level and I never felt any hesitation. Still I believe that the confidence which I gained during my three-month internship period, is helping me in interacting with different types of people. Female students are encourage to apply for internship here at the TNN as they will definitely find it a suitable environment for learning new skills.
I had hoped to learn about the phases through which a news story passes through. I learnt that how a reporter is usually assigned a task, how he files a story after covering it and how the editors treat it before it is on-aired. Besides, I learnt to write news stories and read bulletins. All my expectations have come true and TNN has played a role of nursery in my journalistic career. TNN has been providing a heartening environment to interns where everyone can learn easily. This internship enabled me of crafting news stories and because of this experience, my byline stories have been appearing in newspaper. Now, I am working as a freelance reporter and feedback coordinator in TNN.

This was my first ever internship at TNN. Here I learnt the basics of radio reporting. I learnt how a news story can be crafted and what should be kept in mind before undertaking a news assignment. TNN provided me opportunity to achieve all my objectives including those which I had not dreamt of. As far as environment of the organization is concerned, it is ideal for students particularly female interns. I feel no tension in meeting deadlines as I learnt to finish work within the given time. Presently, I am a student of final year and I am looking forward to avail again if TNN offers any opportunity in future.
TNN introduced me to the field of practical journalism. I learnt story writing and translation from Urdu into Pashto. I also learnt typing in Pashto. The atmosphere is quite friendly and one cannot even imagine that he has come to a place where all the people are strangers. All of them seemed to be hailing from a single family. I underwent a change and now I feel change in my perception. I knew about time management, meeting short and tight deadlines and making story. I am a final year journalism student and I will step in the field after completion of my study.

After completing my graduation, I opted to study journalism in Masters as a step towards my ultimate goal of becoming a broadcast journalist. I had a craze to do reporting for a radio and read Pashto news bulletin on air. Thanks to TNN which provided me the platform to accomplish my dream. Besides reporting, I also learnt editing and mixing audio files and story selection. I also learnt that social media can be used as a tool to expand your reach. I did what I wanted to. Now the next thing I want to learn is video journalism and I am looking forward that TNN will provide me this opportunity as well. Environment of the organization is very good and I believe that such an atmosphere plays a significant role in learning process. The internship benefited me in many ways. Of them, I got a job and presently I am working with TNN as reporter.
Working with TNN was my first entry to the profession of journalism. I had heard theoretically about journalism, radio, reporting, news story etc. in the university but I have never been to a media outlet. It was my utmost desire to work as a reporter in a media organization and to prove myself in this field. TNN provided me the opportunity to do what I wanted to learn. I learnt crafting news story, editing sound bites and presenting a broadcast. Atmosphere of the organization is fairly good and the interns are given enough focus. The interns are encouraged to undertake practical assignments. I would have not become a good reporter had I not have the kind patronage of Iftikhar, Usman and Madam Khalida. TNN taught me everything a radio reporter should know. It was because of successful completion of my internship that TNN engaged me as a reporter.
I had expected to be given enough and proper time in the course of learning. I also had hoped that radio journalism might be taught to us here. I gained knowledge of everything besides getting hands on Pashto typing. The environment was comparatively quite good and the entire staff has impressed me. All my expectations have come true as the organization had provided everything in time including salary. Following the internship, all the doors got opened in the course of my professional life.
I had not processed professional tasks before and I wanted to have an idea about the work I just mentioned besides radio information. I learnt Pashto and Urdu typing and story making here in TNN. The atmosphere of the organization was fairly encouraging and the entire staff was quite friendly. It benefited me in a way that I have now almost complete control over audio editing. TNN has fulfilled all my expectations I had kept from it. Now I have been working as reporter with TNN and CRSS.
I had desired to learn about radio journalism and TNN is the place which played a vital role in fulfilling my dreams. Working environment at TNN is very conducive particularly for those who want to learn, as the staff is very friendly and cooperative. Many jobs have been offered to me due to the internship but I preferred to join TNN as Assistant News Editor.
Oct 2014 - Dec 2014
I wanted to know everything about radio journalism and audio reporting. Thanks to TNN that I learnt a lot of new things during my short association with it. I found about selection of idea for a news story, crafting news and translation. Most of my desires have come true but I am of the view that it would have been better if duration of the internship was six months. I may not be wrong to say that the environment in TNN was just like that of my home. The internship at TNN gave me several benefits as I gained knowledge of making feature reports and editing. Nowadays, I have been working as newscaster in PTV News and reporter in Radio Pakistan. Besides, I also prepare documentaries in IRC project.
Oct 2014 - Dec 2014
Joining a working place is always a challenging task especially for girls but I was lucky enough that I found TNN as my first working place. The office environment was very much friendly and I felt completely secured at TNN. TNN taught me in practical what I studied in the university in books. I learnt about soft news and hard news. I learnt about everything I wanted. The best thing which I enjoyed was editing of sound bites and presenting bulletins. TNN also taught me the skills to craft a sports story. Presently I am working with IPR and preparing documentaries.
Working with TNN as internee has been a wonderful learning experience as it provided result-oriented opportunities regarding practical experience in the field of radio journalism. Having great mentors like Fazl-ur-Rehman and Iftikhar made me capable of story writing, editing, news production and presentation. Due to the internship I pursued here at TNN, I have been appointed as Media Technical Assistant at Independent Project Reporting. With pleasure, I would encourage new comers and internees to join TNN if you really want to embellish your skills for radio journalism.
Being a journalism student, I wanted to learn everything about radio journalism. I came to know about mixing and editing besides learning script writing. I brief, I have learned all the basic things relating to radio journalism. I have experienced several organizations but found no one like TNN with respect to environment, staff, discipline and practical assignments. It is a matter of pleasure for me that I have been writing script by myself in Pakistan Television and that is because of TNN which made me capable of script writing. My communication skills have further ameliorated due to the internship and all my expectations have met here. I am working at PTV News as freelance reporter and translator.
I wanted to learn news production, Pashto typing and radio journalism, technical words and inpage Urdu and it was the TNN which provided me the opportunity. As far as environment of the TNN is concerned, I am quite satisfied with it as I felt secured throughout the duration of my internship. I did not even felt a slight hesitation in TNN. It added a better experience to my CV. Above all, the internship here at TNN build confidence in me. All my expectations from TNN have come true and I am really very happy with the organization. Working with TNN as intern has proved to be very fruitful for me in terms of learning new skills that include writing news stories, recording sounds and then editing the final clips. I also got the opportunity to work on the desk and learnt production of radio bulletins. The major difference which I noticed at TNN is that interns are mostly discouraged in other media organizations whereas here, interns are encouraged to carry out assignments. During my stay here as intern, I was mostly encouraged to go to field and file stories. My work was highly appreciated in the past and for that I have been rewarded to work as reporter for TNN. I also work with Radio Pakistan as reporter from Khyber Agency.
Before starting my internship at TNN, I was not sure about media role in bringing marginalized segments of the society to the limelight. But after working here I learnt that by highlighting problems faced by the public at large in media, backward areas can be brought to the main stream. Contrary to the general practice that media should give coverage to VVIPs only, TNN’s focus is to bring common man’s problem to the front and encourage maximum participation and involvement of public. Besides, I also learnt practical journalism as TNN would use to conduct a class for imparting editing skills. And last but not the least, I felt TNN as my second home as I felt completely secured. Working at TNN has been a pleasure for me.
TNN is a fine place to begin your journalistic career. Students who want to adopt journalism as profession won’t find a better place than TNN to work as intern as here they can have the patronage of seniors they required. Though, I read about ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ news in my course but practically I learnt what are these all about. Writing a news story is another skill that I learnt here. Most of the things that I came across during my short period here were not known to me before. It was due to hands-on experience at TNN that I got a job in a radio channel. Now, I have been working in Radio Dilbar as reporter and News Editor at FM 94 and FM 93.
Working at TNN was a great experience for me. Here I learnt the basics of radio journalism and radio production. I learnt to write news story. I also learnt typing in Pashto, which was required for writing Pashto scripts. The working atmosphere is very conducive particularly for students who aim to join journalism as profession. All the staff members are professional and cooperative and they love to teach practically what we read in theory in the university. I am grateful to TNN for providing me an opportunity to work as intern. My association with TNN helped me to work with Radio Pakistan and Pakhtunkhwa Radio and a daily newspaper from Peshawar. Presently, I have been working with daily Aaeen, TNN, IPR and Radio Pakistan.
