Farmers fears damage to Kharif crops due to unavailability of irrigation water

CHITRAL: Residents of Morilusht area of Chitral districts staged a protest against Irrigation Department and blocked main road against non-provision of water for irrigation purpose.

The residents complained that they could not irrigate their crops for the irrigation channels have gone dry due to less rain.

They said that water could be provided through pipes from two-kilometer away Golain canal but the Irrigation Department was not cooperating in this regard.

They said that they have requested the deputy commissioner, district nazim and elected representatives of the district but no one was ready to pay heed to their demand.

A local resident Qayyur Shah and Safdar said that both rabi and kharif crops have destroyed due to drought like situation.

They appealed the Irrigation Department to ensure provision of water for irrigation of their crops or else they would launch protest drive against the department.
