KP Governor Hosts Reception To Honor Peshawar Zalmi Team
PESHAWAR, 19 March: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra on Sunday hosted a reception in honor of Peshawar Zalmi team, the winner of Pakistan Super League (PSL)’s second edition at the Governor’s House here.
Javed Afridi, owner of the Peshawar Zalmi team, coach Muhammad Akram and player Iftikhar attended the reception.
Governor Jhagra presented tradition turban to Javed Afridi, a symbol of pride and prestige in tribal traditions.
Speaking on the occasion the governor said that the victory of Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL final in Lahore was not only the victory of Peshawar but the triumph of whole Pakistan.
He announced that a franchise team representing Fata would be participating in the next edition of the lucrative cricket league.
Javed Afridi while addressing the reception requested the government to announce civil awards for the international players who dared to come to Pakistan to play the PSL final in Lahore.
“It was a tough task to convince international players. Eventually, they agreed to come to Pakistan and we are grateful to them. Our government should honor them and announce civil awards for them,” Afridi remarked.
Later, the victorious Peshawar Zalmi team visited Khyber House to attend a reception hosted by the political agent of Khyber Agency. Noted journalist and news anchor Saleem Safi also accompanied the team.
Speaking at the reception Saleem Safi lauded the efforts of Javed Afridi and star cricketer Shahid Afridi for convincing international cricketers to visit Pakistan.
“Full credit goes to the two Afridis,” Safi said while refereeing to Javed and Shahid Afridi.
“The two did the job what could not be done by the government and the Pakistan Cricket Board. They convinced Darren Sammy and other players and assured them that they would be provided complete security,” Safi maintained.
